The Spirit desires total control so the will of God may be properly carried out in the Believer (Gal 5:17, James 4:5).  The flesh and the Spirit are at war in the Believer, but the Bible says that the Spirit maintains control as the Believer continues to place himself by Faith in the Finished Work of the Cross  (Rom 6:11 & 8:1-2).  It would be 40 more years before Moses would see the Burning Bush in the wilderness and receive the Call to return into Egypt.

After forty years in the desert of Midian the time had finally arrived.  The people of God were now in severe bondage by their masters, the Egyptians.  In fact the bondage had become intolerable.  Remember though, God always has the last say.  No one knew it, but Egypt was on the eve of total destruction and deliverance was just ahead for Israel.  Moses would be sent directly to Pharaoh, the head of the Serpent so to speak.  While he was keeping the flock of Jethro his father in law at the backside of the desert before mount Horeb, Moses encountered the Burning Bush that was not consumed.  He was instructed to remove his shoes from off his feet, for the place upon which he now stood was Holy Ground (Ex. 3:5).  In those times, the wearing of shoes signified ownership.  Slaves did not wear shoes because they owned nothing.  God was telling Moses that all must be surrendered to Him; he must be a slave of Jesus Christ. The Burning Bush not being consumed may be understood as a representation of the Spirit burning brightly in our lives, but not destroying us, unlike the flesh which will always consume us.  Now that all hope of the flesh was gone in Moses, the Spirit could lead him. God introduced Himself to Moses as “the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” (Ex 3:6).  This statement brings to remembrance all the vast and immeasurable promises of God made to the Patriarchs, and that they were now getting ready to be fulfilled through what the Lord would do with Moses.  The Lord then gave to Moses the commission.  He said the following: 1.) I have seen the affliction of my people, 2.) I have heard their cry, and 3.) I know their sorrows. (Ex 3:7).  This should be comforting to the Believer at all times.  For those in bondage, for those who need to be loosed, He knows your affliction, He has heard your cry, and He knows your sorrows.  This is God speaking about His Own people.  This is God speaking about you. It applies to you dear Reader right this moment.  But it does not stop there.  For then He said “And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey” (Ex 3:8).  God then instructed Moses to go unto Pharaoh.  Moses asked the Lord what he should tell his brethren, the children of Israel, when they ask him the Name of the One Who has sent him unto them.  God responded and said, “I AM THAT I AM … You shall say unto the children of Israel, I AM has sent me unto you” (Ex 3:13-14).  God was saying to Moses and to you and me, “I AM WHATEVER YOU NEED”, and “I’LL BE WHATEVER YOU NEED ME TO BE”.  In this short statement, the Lord was telling Moses and the children ofIsrael that all power was at His disposal to guarantee their deliverance from the bondage of their Egyptian taskmasters.  He was saying that nothing could now prevent them from being set free.  No power could stop their deliverance.  He said “I AM”, and that’s all they and Moses really needed to know.

Dear Child of God, that word, “I AM” is spoken to you today just as much as it was to Israel then.  Israel was miraculously delivered from the bondage of their captors.  And it was done exclusively because of the blood of the Paschal Lamb that was applied to the lintel and doorposts of the homes of the Israelites on that fateful night.  Once the lambs were offered on that first Passover night, that was it, Pharaoh’s fate was sealed, and Israel’s deliverance was guaranteed.  Then and only then was Pharaoh’s will forced to break and yield to the words Moses had spoken before him some seven times throughout the ten plagues – “Let My people go!”.  Satan does not give up easily.  But no power could stop it from happening now; the blood of the lamb had been shed and they were about to be loosed and set free forever from that bondage.
